Exploring Valencia

Combining Mediterranean charm with world-renowned architecture, vibrant gastronomy, and a relaxed coastal atmosphere, Valencia offers the perfect balance between innovation and tradition — a fitting destination for Europe’s leading conference on embolotherapy.

From futuristic landmarks and historic plazas to beaches and lively food markets, the city offers something for every visitor. Whether you are extending your stay after ET 2026 or simply looking to experience Valencia between sessions, the city’s warm climate, walkable neighbourhoods, and welcoming culture make it an unforgettable destination in June.

A city where history meets innovation

Valencia is a city of contrasts. Stroll through the winding streets of the Old Town and discover centuries of history reflected in Gothic architecture, hidden courtyards, and bustling squares. Just a short distance away, the City of Arts and Sciences showcases Valencia’s modern side with its striking futuristic design and cultural attractions.

Dr. Ana Fernández Martínez, member of the ET 2026 Local Host Committee, recommends exploring the Turia Gardens, a unique park stretching through the city where locals gather to walk, cycle, and relax, as well as the City of Arts and Sciences and Malvarrosa Beach. “Valencia blends futuristic architecture with historic charm,” she explains.

Relax by the Mediterranean

Valencia’s coastal setting gives visitors the opportunity to combine scientific exchange with moments of relaxation by the sea. With miles of sandy beaches located only minutes from the city centre, Valencia offers a uniquely Mediterranean congress experience.

Malvarrosa Beach is one of the city’s most popular seaside destinations. The beach promenade is lined with cafés and restaurants, creating a lively yet laid-back atmosphere throughout the day and evening. For a quieter experience, visitors may also explore Patacona Beach, a local favourite known for its relaxed atmosphere and beachfront cafés. Watching the sunset over the Mediterranean is one of the highlights of any stay in Valencia.

Discover Valencia’s culture

Art and culture lovers will also find plenty to discover beyond the city’s famous landmarks. Dr. Fernando Gómez Muñoz recommends visiting the Palacio del Marqués de Dos Aguas, one of Valencia’s architectural treasures, as well as the Museum of Fine Arts of Valencia, home to one of Spain’s largest and most important art collections. Together, these sites reflect Valencia’s rich cultural heritage, where Gothic, Baroque, and modern influences blend seamlessly throughout the city.

Nature escapes

For those looking to unwind beyond the congress venue, Valencia offers an exceptional connection to nature. Dr. Jose Urbano, member of the ET 2026 Local Host Committee, especially recommends visiting the Albufera Natural Park, a peaceful landscape of freshwater lagoons, rice fields, and traditional fishing villages located just south of the city. Dr. Jose Andres Guirola describes Albufera at sunset as “one of the most beautiful landscapes and traditions of Valencia.”

At the western end of the Turia Gardens, Bioparc Valencia, an animal park, immerses visitors in carefully recreated African habitats across 100,000 square metres. Its almost invisible barriers allow visitors to feel immersed in the ecosystems and closer to the animals that live there.

Combined with Valencia’s nearby beaches and coastal promenades, these natural escapes create the perfect balance between scientific exchange and Mediterranean relaxation during ET 2026.
