In September 2025, Siemens Healthineers, became the first to receive CE marking for Genicular Artery Embolisation (GAE) using Embozene microspheres for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis.

Knee osteoarthritis affects nearly 375 million people globally. GAE is a minimally invasive procedure designed to target inflammation and help manage knee pain—providing an option for patients who are not yet candidates for, or wish to delay, joint replacement surgery.
