Dining in Porto

After an engaging day exploring all there is to know about embolotherapy at ET 2025, we encourage you to enjoy Porto’s dynamic culinary scene. Whether you’re craving Portuguese dishes, high-end cuisine, or something else, the city caters to every preference. We spoke with members of the ET Local Host Committee to discover the must-visit restaurants while you’re in Portugal’s picturesque northern gem.

Three restaurants were so popular that multiple members of the local host committee recommended them. First up, Dr. Tiago Pereira, Dr. Pedro Sousa, and Dr. Pedro Marinho Lopes recommended Enoteca 1756. Dr. Marinho Lopes adds, “If you’re looking for a cosy spot near the congress venue, Enoteca 1756 is a fantastic wine bar that serves a variety of Portuguese wines along with delicious small plates. It’s a perfect spot for a relaxed evening after a day at the congress.” “They serve everything from Italian food and sushi to seafood and steaks,” says Dr. Sousa.

Another popular restaurant is Café Santiago, which serves a classic dish, recommended by Dr. Marinho Lopes and Dr. Ana Isabel Simoes Ferreira. Dr. Marinho Lopes says about the place, “Porto is known for its Francesinha, a sandwich that’s a must-try for anyone visiting the city. This local dish, a hearty, indulgent sandwich with layers of meat, cheese, and sauce, is a unique experience. I highly recommend trying it at Café Santiago, one of the most famous places in Porto, for this dish.”

Lastly, DOP was recommended by Dr. Simoes Ferreira and Dr. Belarmino Gonçalves. Dr. Simoes Ferreira, “Helmed by renowned chef Rui Paula, this restaurant serves contemporary Portuguese dishes in an elegant setting.”
